A garment factory unit was completely gutted and materials estimated to be worth around ₹40 lakh were burnt in an accidental fire in Rukmini Nagar in Nagasandra early on Monday. No one was at the factory when the fire broke out, so no injuries were reported. Around 30 employees work at the unit during the day.
Passers-by saw the building engulfed in flames and alerted Fire and Emergency Services, who rushed to the spot and put out the blaze after three hours. Large volumes of highly combustible cloth in the factory made it difficult to control the fire, sources said.
An electric short circuit is suspected to have caused the accident. The unit belongs to Arun and Shivakumar, who have now been summoned by the police for further investigation.

When reporters brought to her notice the claim by villagers that the late maharaja of Mysore Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar had gifted the land to them, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar said she is not aware of the matter, but sought to assure people that no effort will be made to take back the land that had been gifted by the late maharaja.
