Gangubai Kathiawadi box office collection Day 16: Alia Bhatt film moves ahead at decent pace

Despite competition from new films, Gangubai Kathiawadi is doing well in its third week at the box office. Starring Alia Bhatt, the biographical crime drama is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi is experiencing decent crowds in theatres. The film had an amazing opening on February 25 and received love from all quarters. Now in its third week, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial is facing tough competition from The Kashmir Files and Prabhas-starrer radhe Shyam, but it is still holding its ground.

Gangubai Kathiawadi is a biographical drama, based on Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. The film crossed the Rs 100 crore-mark in two weeks of its theatrical run. Now, the Alia Bhatt-starrer has slowed down a bit, but going at a study space as its earnings stand around Rs 107 crore.

Alia celebrated the Rs 100 crore club milestone by having a vegan burger.

Besides Alia Bhatt, Gangubai Kathiawadi also stars Ajay Devgn, Parth Samthaan, Shantanu Maheshwari and Seema Pahwa in pivotal roles. The story is about a woman, Ganga, who travels from Gujarat to Mumbai with her partner, but gets sold off and pushed into prostitution. She then becomes a madame named Gangubai in the redlight area of Kamathipura. The film follows her rise to power and fighting one challenge after another.
