Bangladesh have desperately wanted to include opener Tamim Iqbal in the T20I squad after their debacle in the last World Cup.
Veteran Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal has been left frustrated with the Bangladesh Cricket Board. The captain of the ODI team has lashed out at the board’s speculations of him playing in the T20I side, indicating that the BCB has been feeding lies to the public.
This comes in the background of Tamim excluding himself from the T20I format going into the 2022 T20 World Cup. Iqbal has said that he wants to stay away from the T20I side till the World Cup as his focus will be on playing the Test and the ODI format. He had announced his decision late in January this year, and said that he would only return if the BCB ask him to be in the team.
His decision came after Bangladesh were badly hammered in the T20I World Cup in the UAE, where their standard of cricket was much below the other international teams.
BCB, over the past few months have stated that they have held talks with Iqbal for returning in the T20I side, but the ODI captain has not answered back.
Iqbal lashed out in Dhaka on Sunday, 5 June, stating that he has not been given a single chance to explain his side in the media.
''Nobody gives me a chance to explain my plan regarding my T20s. Either you [media] say it or someone else tells it [regarding my T20's future] and let it move like this because I am not given any chance [by the board] to tell anything,'' Tamim told reporters at Dhaka on Sunday.
''I play for so long at least I deserve it, what I feel or think they should hear it from me,'' he said.
