Drivers in and around the Montreal area are advised to take caution as a freezing rain weather alert and smog warning remain in affect.
Environment and Climate Change Canada issued the alert for the Montreal, Longueuil, Varennes, Vaudreuil, Valleyfield-Beauharnois, Mont-Tremblant—Sainte-Agathe, Châteauguay, and La Prairie.
“Freezing drizzle has ended over southern Quebec, but current temperatures near zero may mean more freezing rain late in the day,” the weather alert reads.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery, increasing the risk of accidents.
“Drivers are advised to slow down while driving in slippery conditions and to watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance.”
Meanwhile, a smog warning that has been in effect since Friday continues for southern Quebec from the Outaouais toward Quebec City.
The dense fog on Sundy morning could create zero visibility in some areas. It is expected to gradually dissipate by late morning, according to the agency.
