Found out at 4 pm on Saturday that I’m Tripura’s next CM, says Manik Saha
India Today
At a press conference on Sunday, Manik Saha said that he knew he would be the next chief minister of Tripura at 4 pm on Saturday, hours before it was announced.
Biplab Kumar Deb resigned as the Chief Minister of Tripura on Saturday afternoon. For a few hours thereafter, the question in everyone’s mind was who next?
But not for Manik Saha, who has just taken the oath as the new chief minister. He knew he was the chosen one by around 4 pm on Saturday, he said, even as the official announcement came in only a couple of hours after that.
Addressing his first press conference as the chief minister of Tripura, Manik Saha emphasised that he had good relations with ex-CM Biplab Deb and that’s how he was already aware that he would be his successor.
Biplab Deb is the one who proposed Manik Saha’s name for the post of CM at the BJP legislative party meet on Saturday evening.
"I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, BJP national president J P Nadda and Biplab Deb for handing over the baton to me. It is a big responsibility and I will discharge my duties with utmost care," Manik Saha said on Sunday.
He added that his government would prioritise completing the unfinished work of Biplab Deb and making sure welfare schemes announced by the Centre and the state reach each citizen.
Manik Saha asserted that the law and order in the state was ‘good enough’ and would be maintained.
