Former student and Indigo co-founder Rakesh Gangwal donates Rs 100 crore to IIT Kanpur

The Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has received a Rs 100 crore donation for the setting up of a 'School of Medical Sciences and Technology' from IndiGo Airlines co-founder Rakesh Gangwal.
Rakesh Gangwal, co-founder of IndiGo Airlines and an alumni of the institute, has recently made one of the largest personal donations to the School of Medical Sciences & Technology at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur.
Rakesh Gangwal has donated Rs 100 crore in a personal capacity. IIT Kanpur's Director, Abhay Karandikar, on Monday took to Twitter to announce the big news.
Gangwal will also be joining the Advisory Board of the school.
"More than ever, healthcare is intertwined with technological advances and this school will accelerate innovation in healthcare,'' he added.
"Here is big news from @IITKanpur. In an extraordinary gesture, our alumnus Mr Rakesh Gangwal, Co-Founder of IndiGo airlines has made one of the largest personal donations with a 100 crore contribution focused on supporting the School of Medical Sciences & Technology at IIT Kanpur," he tweeted.

"This is the first of its kind. It is setting up a super speciality hospital," IIT Kanpur Director added.
