India Today
The Seshachalam forest area, which surrounds the hill shrine of Tirumala Tirupati, was engulfed in flames on Tuesday. Nearly 50 people were involved in the attempts to put out the fire.
As summer has started and the temperature is soaring, the Seshachalam forest area, which surrounds the hill shrine of Tirumala Tirupati, was engulfed in flames on Tuesday evening.
Fires spread rapidly in the forest area near Elephant Arch on the First Ghat Road leading to the lord Venkateshwara temple.
The fire was initially noticed around 2:30 pm in the afternoon. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) forest department personnel reached the spot, and it took around 8 hours to douse the fire.
Nearly 50 people were involved in the attempt to douse the fire.
TTD forest officials estimated that more than ten acres of forest had been gutted by the blaze.
It is also suspected that red sandalwood smugglers may have been involved in the incident. They do this to ensure proper road visibility.
