Foreign currency worth Rs 59 lakh seized at Delhi’s IGI Airport

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and intelligence staff of IGI airport on Wednesday arrested a passenger and recovered foreign currency worth Rs 59 lakh from his possession.
On Wednesday, a passenger was arrested at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and foreign currency worth Rs 59 lakh was recovered from his possession.
It was on April 27 that Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) surveillance and intelligence staff of IGI airport intercepted a passenger based on suspicion and a search was conducted.
After thorough checking of his luggage, 22,000 US Dollars and 2,00,000 UAE Dirham worth approximately Rs 59 lakh were found concealed under the false bottom of his bag. On enquiry, he could not produce any valid document to carry such an amount of foreign currency.
Subsequently, the passenger along with the recovered foreign currency was handed over to Customs Officials for further action in the matter.
The accused, identified as Sumit Kumar, was bound for Sharjah on an Air India Express flight.
