Hyderabad District Collector emphasizes timely high-risk pregnancy identification and treatment, stressing proactive prenatal care to prevent maternal deaths.
Hyderabad District Collector Anudeep Durishetty has directed the Medical and Health Department to intensify their focus on the health and well-being of pregnant women. He stressed the importance of timely identification and treatment of high-risk pregnancies during a review meeting on maternal deaths on Thursday.
Addressing medical officers, ANMs, and ASHA workers, the collector underscored the need for consistent monitoring and follow-up of pregnant women. He instructed health workers to conduct home visits, maintain close communication through mobile phones, and ensure that all expectant mothers are registered and receive necessary antenatal care.
Mr. Durishetty called for urgent improvements in prenatal care services across the district, including regular health check-ups, vaccinations, and distribution of necessary supplements. “High-risk cases must be flagged early, and timely treatment must be ensured. Maternal deaths are preventable if the system works proactively,” he said.
During the meeting, the District Collector reviewed six recent maternal deaths in the district and issued strict instructions to medical officials to prevent such incidents in the future. He also directed the staff to ensure that every pregnant woman’s contact details are shared with the local Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC), ANMs, and ASHAs to enable constant monitoring and advice through phone calls and home visits.
