The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) has issued a flood warning from Elora to West Montrose.
Officials say river flows are expected to reach Flood Zone 1, pictured below, in West Montrose Sunday afternoon before returning below warning levels later this week.
Officials in Woolwich and Centre Wellington have been advised to notify impacted properties of potential flooding from the Grand River.
In a statement on Sunday, the authority said last week's warmer weather and around 25 mm of rainfall resulted in significant snow melt and high water levels in and aroud the Grand River.
"The GRCA's major reservoirs have been used extensively during this event to help mitigate significant downstream flooding and are now being operated to return them to a normal level for this time of year," the statement said.
A flood warning remains in effect for the Speed River in Cambridge.
Officials are advised to keep the Mill Run Trail closed under Highway 401 and at Blackbridge Road as needed.
A flood watch remains in effect for all other areas of the Grand River watershed.
High water levels are expected to remain for upcoming week with more rainfall in the forecast.
The public has also been asked to avoid walking on any bodies of water due to melting ice.
"Ice on local water bodies, where it remains, has been significantly weakened, resulting in extremely unsafe conditions … Accessing frozen water bodies puts both the public and municipal first responders at risk. Anyone who falls through the ice could experience hypothermia and death within minutes," the GRCA said.
The GRCA said this safety messaging will remain in place until Thursday and will be updated if necessary.
