Five held for making illegal crackers at a farm near Watrap

Five arrested for illegal cracker manufacturing at farm near Watrap, chemicals and charcoal seized, investigation ongoing.

Five persons, including a woman, were arrested on charges of illegally manufacturing crackers at a farm near Watrap on Thursday.

The police said that Yesudoss, 43, of Elayirampannai along with his friend, Marimuthu of Koomapatti, had met another friend, Thangeswaran, 49, of Sethu Naryanapuram.

The three decided to make crackers at the land belonging to Thangeswaran on the foothills of Chinnakoottam Malai.

Even as the illegal work had been going on for the last few weeks, Watrap police got a tip-off and raided the farm where they found lot of chemicals and charcoal being used to make crackers. The police also enquired with the trio.

Based on their confession, the police raided the houses of Chinnappar, 28, and Santhi, 43, of R. C. Street and seized bags of fuses.
