Two fishermen cut their fishing nets to free two baby dugongs who got trapped off the coast of Thondi recently.
In a kind act, two fishermen cut their fishing net to free two baby dugongs who got trapped off the coast of Thondi in Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu.
State Environment Secretary, Supriya Sahu, shared a video of the incident on Twitter.
“Off the coast of Thondi in Ramanathapuram Dist. Two fishermen Raman & Hariharasuthan released two juvenile Dugongs caught in their net. The mother stayed close until the young ones were freed,” she wrote in her tweet.

Dugongs are a rare species of sea cow and the last of the Dugonidae family. They look slightly different from sea cows with their distinct tail fins which look more like those of a dolphin. These species are highly endangered.
