Federal officials have notified stakeholders in the airline industry that they will announce as soon as Thursday a 30-day extension of the federal transportation mask mandate, three sources told CNN.
The mandate is one of the last remaining broad requirements that Americans wear masks in public places. It applies to mass transportation including planes, trains, buses and hubs like airports.
The requirement is currently set to expire on March 18.
Visitors will now have to pay a fee on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Juneteenth.
