
Fire Station announces Youth Summer Programme

Doha: The Fire Station: Artist in Residence has announced its annual Youth Summer Programme for young artists in Qatar to explore new mediums and work under the guidance of local multidisciplinary artists. Beginning August 2021, Fatma Alnaimi, Nayla Ahmed, Amna Albaker and Mariam Al Shaikh will mentor artists aged 16 to 25 who will have the opportunity to learn from these creatives in different areas of art and design.
Each mentoring artist will present a three-day workshop during each week of August. The workshops comprise:Nayla Ahmed: It's PersonalDate: 1, 3 and 5 August This hands-on workshop invites participants to explore what makes them unique using various playful techniques to help create a personal visual language. Fatma Alnaimi: Recycle and Repurpose Paper to Create ArtDate: 8, 10 and 12 August In this workshop, participants will learn the basic steps of manual paper-making techniques by using recycled paper.Mariam Al Shaikh (BOTO): A New Form of Expression Date: 15, 17 and 19 August In this workshop, participants will learn how to repurpose plain objects into functional art pieces.Amna AlBaker: Digital Illustration and Animation Techniques Using Procreate Date: 22, 24 and 26 August During the three sessions, participants will learn the basics of digital illustration and animation using the Procreate software on iPad. The workshop will introduce participants to illustration techniques such as composition, light and shadow, background design and simple colour theory. It will also provide an introduction to the principles of animation to create simple animations. Our Youth Summer Programme provides a unique opportunity for young and aspiring artists to explore their creative aspirations while working closely under the guidance of established artists.
