Fire and rescue team manages to avert further spread
A massive fire outbreak affected several acres of land in an isolated area near the KMCT Medical College at Mukkom in Kozhikode district on Sunday. The fire broke out at around 4.30 p.m. atop a small hillock at Mampetta. No one sustained injuries in the incident.
Fire and Rescue service officials from Mukkom station said there were no buildings on the land, which was covered with undergrowth. The timely intervention of the rescue units averted the spread of fire to nearby areas. The area had earlier been a cashew plantation, they said.
A group of local residents also rushed to the spot to support the firefighters. It took about two hours to control the flames.
