
FIR against Kanyakumari college professor for alleged sexual harassment

A case was registered against Kanyakumar college professor after a 22-year-old student accused him of sexual harassment. The professor has denied all charges and has filed a complaint against the student's brother.
Kanyakumari police registered a case against an assistant professor of a college after students accused him of sexual harassment.
The college students alleged that the accused, who has been identified as Vasudevan, was sending them obscene messages and videos.
The incident came to light when a 22-year-old student, who had filed a complaint with the college authorities, alleged that no action was taken against the professor. The students boycotted classes and staged a protest demanding immediate action and dismissal of the accused professor.

Speaking to the media, the college students said that there were multiple instances of abuse. A girl student said, "Vasudevan had shared videos and text messages with sexual undertones and one girl shared the incident with her brother. This led to the brother physically confronting the professor. The college authorities took no action after the student complaint. They suspended the girl student."
When the protests intensified, police officials reached the spot and promised that necessary action would be taken. Based on the student's complaint, an FIR was registered against Vasudevan under Sections 294(b) (obscene acts and songs), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 506(i) (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
Meanwhile, Vaseduvan denied the allegations against him and filed a complaint against the girl's brother for allegedly assaulting him and causing him serious injuries. An FIR was filed against the girl's brother under sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 294(b) (obscenity), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 506(ii) of the IPC.
