Shivamogga police have registered an FIR against Karnataka minister KS Eshwarappa and BJP leader Channabasappa for making provocative statements after the murder of a Bajrang Dal activist in February.

Police have registered a case following an order by a local court. “On the basis of a complaint, we have registered a case; a probe is underway,” said BM Laxmi Prasad, Superintendent of Police, Shivamogga.
Bajrang Dal activist Harsha, 23, was stabbed to death in Shivamogga district of Karnataka on Sunday, February 20. Following the murder, a few incidents of arson and stone-pelting took place in Shivamogga. Bikes were torched and stones were pelted at houses and commercial establishments.
Following unrest in the region after the murder, Section 144 had to be imposed and at least 1,200 police personnel were deployed in Shivamogga and another 400 personnel had to be rushed to the district from Bengaluru and other parts of the state.
