A female is dead and a male is in custody after a stabbing inside a Canadian Tire store in Mississauga on Monday evening, Peel police say.
The store is located in the area of Mavis and Britannia roads. Police were called to the scene at 6:01 p.m. after receiving several calls about the attack.
Officers found the female and male inside the store and arrested the male.
The female was showing "obvious signs of trauma," Const. Philip Yake told reporters in the parking lot.
Police said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The accused was also injured and taken to a local hospital with a minor injury, police said.
Police said the homicide bureau has taken over the investigation.
"This has been deemed to be an isolated incident and public safety is not a concern," Yake said.
On Monday night, police were not commenting on the relationship, if any, between the victim and accused.
Yake said police do not know yet if the two knew each other or were strangers. No information was released about the ages of the victim and accused or their injuries.
Police also declined to say where in the store the stabbing happened.
Anyone who witnessed anything is urged to call Peel police. A large part of the store's parking lot was taped off by police on Monday night.
