Fast-Track Latvian Woman's Murder Trial, Kerala Opposition Demands

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in his reply that the case is now under the consideration of the principal sessions court

The opposition Congress-led UDF in Kerala today urged the Left government to hand over to a fast-track court a case of rape and murder of a Latvian woman tourist at Kovalam beach resort three years ago.

A new special prosecutor should be appointed for this at the earliest and justice should be ensured to the woman's family, Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan demanded in the Assembly.

He brought the issue to the notice of the House through a submission.

"The accused have received bail as the charge-sheet was not submitted within 90 days in the case. The trial is yet to be started even three-and-a-half years after the crime," Mr Satheesan told the Assembly.
