CESC officials, who assured to implement seven hours of non-stop power supply to IP sets during daytime and replacement of burnt transformers within stipulated time, said they will forward the other demands pertaining to rules for new electricity connections, smart meters and power tariff hike before the State Government.
Farmers gathered in front of the office of Managing Director of Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) in Mysuru on April 5 to press for their demands, including seven hours of uninterrupted power supply for their irrigation pump sets (IP sets).
Receiving a memorandum from the protesting farmers, CESC Superintending Engineer Sunil Kumar assured the farmers that the corporation will address their demands that come under its purview while bringing other demands to the notice of the government of Karnataka.
Responding to the complaint of farmers that power supply is no more than five hours a day contrary to the government’s assurance, he said the corporation will endeavour to provide seven hours of non-stop power supply to the IP sets of farmers during daytime, as per the decision of the State Government.
With regard to the demand for immediate replacement of burnt transformers, Sunil Kumar assured that the CESC is committed to taking steps for replacement of burnt transformers within a stipulated time frame.
Farmers demanded that the corporation bring back the Akrama-Sakrama scheme for new electricity connections (for farmers) while dropping the rule to recover the charge for a new connection from them.
The farmers demanded that the government drop its move to install smart meters for electricity connections of farmers, and withdraw the hike in power tariff on domestic usage.
CESC officials, who assured to implement seven hours of non-stop power supply to IP sets during daytime and replacement of burnt transformers within stipulated time, said they will forward the other demands pertaining to rules for new electricity connections, smart meters and power tariff hike before the State Government.

It is not often that an election in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation makes much news outside Kerala or even the capital. But the elections in 2020 were different as it culminated in the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)]’s Arya Rajendran becoming the youngest Mayor of the Corporation at the age of 21, an event which got attention far and wide. Now, five years later, an old tweet on that election by another young person in the running to be the Mayor of New York has gone viral.
