Farm reforms laws dead. What protesting farmers want now?
India Today
A year after farmers' unions launched their protest against the Centre's three farm laws, the laws are dead. However, the farmers have stayed put at their protest sites at Delhi's borders, pushing for their remaining demands.
After protesting for a few months in Punjab resorting to “rail roko”, several farmers’ unions organised themselves under the banner of Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and gave a “Dilli Chalo” call in November 2020, demanding the repeal of the three farm reforms laws.
The government had brought three laws, first as ordinances and then as bills passed by Parliament: The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020; and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
