The family of a woman killed when a 17-year-old driver crashed his father's Lamborghini into her car in Los Angeles has reached an $18.85 million settlement in the case, attorneys announced Wednesday. Monique Munoz, 32, was on her way home from work at a hospital on Feb. 17, 2021, when the Lamborghini SUV driven by Brendan Khuri ran a red light.
Prosecutors said Khuri had been racing another vehicle and swerving in and out of lanes at more than 100 mph just prior to colliding with Munoz's car. Munoz died at the scene of the collision near the Westwood area of Los Angeles.
Khuri pleaded guilty to one count of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. The son of millionaire businessman James Khuri was sentenced to 9 months in a juvenile camp after admitting to his part in the crash.

To identify and stop the next potential pandemic, government disease detectives have been discreetly searching for viral pathogens in wastewater from airplanes. Experts are worried that these efforts may not be enough.
