The family of Nimisha Priya, who was sentenced to death for murdering a Yemeni national, has sought permission to visit her in jail as a last-ditch effort.
Nimisha Priya’s mother and daughter along with four members of the ‘Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council’ have approached the foreign ministry seeking permission to visit her in Yemen. Nimisha was sentenced to death for murdering a Yemeni national who hid her passport and kept her as a slave in Yemen.
The action council has decided to meet the family of the Yemeni citizen in person and apologise. Nimisha's mother Premakumari, an eight-year-old daughter, and four members of the ‘Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council’ have decided to go to Yemen as a last-ditch effort to release her.

She also wrote a letter to the action council sharing her concerns about whether the authorities and the family of the slain citizen will grant her mercy. Members of the action council are hoping to bring the group to Yemen as soon as possible to secure Nimisha’s momentary release. Indian citizens have been barred from travelling to Yemen since 2016. Because of the ban, the group cannot travel to Yemen without seeking permission.
