Fabinho will definitely be back for the Champions League final: Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp
India Today
Fabinho injured himself during Liverpool's match against Aston Villa. He won't be able to take part in the FA Cup final against Chelsea.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said that Fabinho would be back for the Champions League final against Real Madrid on May 29 at the Stade de France. The 28-year-old Fabinho sustained a hamstring injury during Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Aston Villa on May 11 at Villa Park.
Due to the injury, Fabinho won’t be able to take part in the FA Cup final on Saturday against Chelsea at Wembley Stadium. The Brazilian footballer will also miss Liverpool’s match against Southampton on May 18 at the St Mary’s Stadium.
However, the 54-year-old Klopp sounded optimistic about Fabinho making a comeback for the all-important Champions League final against the current La Liga champions.
“He will definitely be back for the Champions League final. Before, we will see. We don't know,” Klopp was quoted as saying.
"He has reacted absolutely okay. Fab is a professional, he was obviously not happy about it, that's clear, but he took it. He is already taking on the fight, that's how it is. It's not enough if you are ready on Friday for a final, so it will be Tuesday or Wednesday or something like that and we are working on that and we are all very positive that will be the case. He's absolutely okay," he added.
Despite Fabinho’s absence, Liverpool aren’t short of mid-fielders. Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita are the mid-fielders who may take part against Chelsea. Klopp also talked about the role his team’s midfielders have played thus far.
"They played all the time a very important part. The few minutes a week where we can really train, without these boys showing the attitude they have shown all year, we have no chance to deliver the performances we have delivered. That's absolutely 100% true,” he said.
