While netizens largely welcomed Elon Musk's $44-billion Twitter buyout, some are opposed to it. The Tesla CEO late on Monday in a tweet hinted that the opposition to the deal was because of his advocacy of 'free speech'.
Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk on Monday night lashed out at critics who have spoken out against the $44 billion deal as the microblogging platform changed hands. “The extreme antibody reaction from those who fear free speech says it all,” he tweeted.

The Tesla CEO has long felt that the concept of free speech was being suppressed on Twitter and he intends to change that. While many welcomed the change in ownership from public to private, there were some who felt that this development could put democracy in jeopardy.
Advocating a wealth tax in her country, US senator Elizabeth Warren said: “This deal is dangerous for our democracy. Billionaires like Elon Musk play by a different set of rules than everyone else, accumulating power for their own gain. We need a wealth tax and strong rules to hold Big Tech accountable.”
