Telangana CM Revanth Reddy directs officials to explore underground power cable system to improve efficiency and reduce outages in Greater Hyderabad.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has asked the officials to examine the possibility of installing power cables underground in Greater Hyderabad area and instructed them to conduct a study on it.
He asked them to study similar installations in other countries and submit a report, while reviewing the power sector in Telangana. He said that various alternatives should be examined so that all types of cables, including power cables, remained underground.
The Chief Minister said that the underground cable system could reduce power losses and overcome problems such as power theft and power outages due to natural disasters.
About power supply in the coming summer, he instructed the officials to prepare a solid plan to ensure that there were no power cuts and DISCOMs should be ready to ensure that there was no power outage anywhere in the State.
Officials explained to the Chief Minister that the peak demand in the State reached 15,623 megawatts in March last year and it was estimated to reach 16,877 megawatts this time.
The Chief Minister advised the officials to take steps to provide solar power and solar pumpsets to the houses in the tribal areas free of cost. He said that a meeting should be held with the Forest Department, Tribal Welfare Department and related departments and a complete report should be prepared as soon as possible.
