Ex-NYPD officer blasts 'despicable' move to put convicted cop killer on NY police reform panel
Fox News
Nassau County Police Benevolent Association (PBA) President James McDermott said Richard Rivera, who reportedly murdered off-duty officer and dad-of-four Robert Walsh in 1981, should step down from the police reform panel.
Rivera, who was convicted of fatally shooting the NYPD officer in a Queens, N.Y. bar, is now helping reform police in Ithaca, New York as part of a state-mandated plan launched by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the New York Post reported. The advisory group was reportedly formed after Cuomo ordered municipalities to submit police-reform plans to the state by April 1 following George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis police custody last year. Floyd’s death sparked protests in cities across the country, calling for police reform. A spokesman for Cuomo did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.More Related News
