Western countries in Europe were hit with record rainfall that caused rivers to swell and triggered catastrophic flooding this week in Germany, Belgium, southern parts of the Netherlands and Switzerland. Horrific images reveal entire communities inundated with water, collapsed edifices and rescue workers combing through wreckage.
