Erode police register cases against NTK candidate and party members for campaigning without permission in upcoming by-election.
The Erode district police have registered two cases against Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) candidate M.K. Seethalakshmi and 11 party functionaries for campaigning in Erode (East) Assembly constituency without the permission of election officials. The byelection in the constituency is scheduled for February 5.
On Sunday, she along with seven others campaigned at the Corporation’s Central Bus Terminal. The Erode Town police registered a case against the eight persons. Similarly, the candidate, along with four others, conducted a door-to-door campaign at Jeeva Nagar, following which the Karungalpalayam police registered a case against the five persons.
The candidate told media persons that election officials had denied permission for campaigning, and blamed the DMK government for preventing her from meeting electors.
On Monday morning, Ms. Seethalakshmi along with a few functionaries campaigned at the vegetable market on the V.O.C. Park Ground premises in the city. A police team questioned whether she had obtained permission for the campaign. The candidate informed the police that permission had not been granted by the concerned authorities, and asked them to register a case.
