ENG vs SA, 1st Test: South Africa are currently leading by 124 runs with three wickets left in their first innings. Ben Stokes picked up three wickets for the home team.
England fast bowler Stuart Broad reckoned England aren’t out of the ongoing Lord’s Test against South Africa by any stretch of the imagination. At stumps on Day 2, the Proteas, captained by Dean Elgar, are leading by 124 runs with three wickets left in their first innings.
After being bowled out for 165 in their first innings, English skipper Ben Stokes led from the front and picked up three crucial wickets of Sarel Erwee, Rassie van der Dussen and Keshav Maharaj.
Broad, who dismissed Kyle Verreynne on the second day, said that Day 3 is most likely to decide the fate of the match to a large extent.
"The game is set up really nicely. We feel really positive in the changing room that we have got ourselves back in the game. We feel like tomorrow is a must-win day," Broad was quoted as saying.
"We needed a couple of breakthroughs. He gave us a bit of energy and got the crowd going. Stokesy brought great theatre. Players like him put bums on seats," he stated.
Broad admitted that England were pushed on the backfoot at the end of their first innings and need to score big in the second. The veteran also said that The Three Lions have every chance to be in the driver’s seat in the first Test, keeping in mind their performance this summer.
"When you get bowled out relatively cheaply in the first innings, you have to make it a first versus fourth innings game, so we have to try to get enough ahead that we can try to defend it," Broad said.
