ENG vs NZ | Under 300 would be quite doable if you bat really well: Ben Foakes on potential target
India Today
New Zealand, who had a slender lead of 14 runs, added 224 runs but lost seven wickets before stumps on Day 4. Daryl Mitchell is holding the Kiwi fort as the final day is poised for a thriller.
England wicketkeeper-batter Ben Foakes said that anything under 300 could be New Zealand's potential target in the ongoing second Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
England came out all guns blazing on Monday, with Joe Root (176) once again scoring the bulk of the runs. Besides Root, Ollie Pope (145), Ben Stokes (46) and Ben Foakes (56) helped England to reach 539 in reply to New Zealand's first innings total of 553.
New Zealand, who had a slender lead of 14 runs, added 224 runs but lost seven wickets along the way. Will Young and Devon Conway had a solid partnership with each registering a half-century before the team began to collapse. Daryl Mitchell (32*) is holding the fort for the Kiwis as the final day is poised for a thrilling finish.
When asked about a potential target, Foakes was quoted as saying: "I think as little as possible.
"Realistically how fast it's been scoring, under 300 you'd say would be quite doable if you bat really well. Some of the guys we've got in the dressing room, guys like Stokesy, it could be anything really.
"You have no idea really if he gets in. So much has happened this afternoon that now all three results are in play. It should be one hell of a day."
