Employee data compromised in cyberattack at London Public Library

The personal information of some employees was compromised in a cyberattack that targeted London Public Library and caused widespread system outages in mid-December, library officials said in a statement, Wednesday evening.
While employee data was compromised, the statement says there's no indication that the data of library patrons was affected in the same way.
"The information accessed does not include any credit card details as online library fee payment and online donation transactions are conducted using external banking/ecommerce platforms that were not affected by the cyberattack," the statement read.
The statement is the latest in a series of developments stemming from a Dec. 13 cyberattack that crippled library systems, including their website and online catalogues, WiFi and computers, and resulted in the temporary closure of some branches.
"To date, we have been able to restore access to OverDrive/Libby ebook and audiobook platforms and other digital resources, library WiFi, and library telephone and email systems," the statement said. "We are hopeful that public computer access will be available very soon and we are continuing to work at restoring the library's catalogue and lending systems, including holds, returns and check ins of books and other physical items."
An investigation into the attack is still underway, according to the statement.
Previously, library officials said the London Police Service and outside cybersecurity experts were in contact with the library.
Future updates will be published to the library's website.
