Kangana Ranaut's directorial debut, Emergency, opens to mixed reviews and ₹2.4 crore collection on opening day.
Kangana Ranaut’s new directorial, the political drama Emergency, released in theatres on January 17, 2025. According to tracking website Sacnilk, the film secured a collection of ₹ 2.4 crore on its opening day as per early estimates. Though a paltry figure, it is still the highest opener for a Kangana film in the last five years.
Emergency is co-written and directed by Kangana, who also takes the lead role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film has received mixed to negative reviews. It had earlier run into censor troubles, leading to a delayed release.
Despite being cleared by the CBFC, the film was not screened at most cinemas in Punjab on Friday following protests by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Sikh organisations against the movie.
Ranaut’s last theatrical release was Tejas in 2024.
