Emergency alert issued after 2 shootings in Preston area

Residents of North and East Preston, N.S., are asked to lock their doors and shelter in place on Friday evening, after two shootings in the area.

Police sent out an emergency alert around 8:10 p.m. AT Friday evening, after two shootings in the area, the alert said. RCMP received a call about the shootings at 6:55 p.m., Cpl. Chris Marshall told CBC News.

He said no one is believed to be injured. 

Marshall said police took one person into custody and two others were seen running into a wooded area behind Brian Street in East Preston.

"These people are believed to have fled into the woods on foot, which obviously makes it significantly more difficult to move from one area to another, as opposed to being in a vehicle," he said.

"And again, we have the area contained at this point."

The suspects are believed to be armed. Marshall said the force has many officers and resources on site. He said residents should be prepared to possibly evacuate from their homes.

"There may be some folks who police officers attend their home and ask them to evacuate just given the proximity to the area," he said. "That will be dependent on how the situation develops."

Police are warning residents not to approach the suspects and to call 911 if spotted.
