The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday took stock of preparations in poll-bound states and Union Territories. The ECI organized a conference with the Chief Electoral Officers of all states and Union Territories at IIIDEM, New Delhi to share experiences and learnings from State Assembly elections held in 2021 and 2022.
With Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh going to polls by the end of this year and many north-eastern states slated to go to polls next year, Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey emphasised emulating successful practices adopted during recent elections.
With the ECI pushing back the date for publication of finalised electoral rolls, it is highly unlikely that assembly elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir this year. The EC has revised the date of publishing the final electoral roll from October 31 to November 25, 2022.
The conference of Chief Electoral Officers of poll-gone and poll-going states/UTs was organised to share experiences and learnings from recently held state assembly elections in 2021 and 2022.
