The order comes after the Asom Jatiya Parishad reportedly lodged a complaint with the state poll panel alleging that the chief minister violated the model code of conduct by announcing sops to landless residents of Guwahati while campaigning for the BJP ahead of the GMC polls.
The regional political party also alleged that Sarma lured the voters by offering an extension of the Arunodoi scheme and also promising Rs 10 crore to each ward for developmental activities.
Election for all 60 wards of the GMC is slated to be held on April 22. The counting of votes will take place on April 24. A total of 7,96,829 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise at 789 polling stations.
