While addressing students, parents and teachers, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu stated that education must be treated as a mission that produces socially conscious and responsible citizens.
Calling for imparting value-based education with emphasis on Indian culture and heritage to children, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu stressed that "education is meant for empowerment, enlightenment and employment, not for mere acquisition of degrees and certificates."
The Vice President's remarks came as he was addressing parents,students, and teachers at the diamond jubilee celebrations of Sri Patibandla Seetharamaiah High School, Guntur. The Vice President also spoke on a number of other issues like physical fitness, the importance of learning mother tongue etcetera.
Lamenting the commercialisation of education, the vice president stated that both the fields of education and medicine were treated like missions in older days.
He added that education should produce citizens that are socially conscious and responsible citizens and will strive selflessly for the larger good of society and the country.
He stated further, "Nobody will remember if you love yourself, but you will become immortal if you live for others, then you will live long in the memory of others."
The vice president further emphasised the importance of holistic education while addressing students, teachers and parents.
