ED says Punjab CM Channi's nephew made crores through sand mining, govt transfers

The Enforcement Directorate has said that Punjab CM Channi's nephew Bhupinder Singh Honey made crores of rupees through sand mining and transfer of government officials.
Bhupinder Singh Honey, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi's nephew, amassed crores of rupees through illegal sand mining and transfer of government officials, the Enforcement Directorate said on Friday.
The probe agency had arrested Bhupinder Singh on Thursday for money laundering.
The ED officials said that thy suspected that the wealth recovered from Bhupinder Singh's properties during raids were generated through illegal sand mining and transfer of government officials.
The officials said that Bhupinder Singh Honey most likely used his political link to get transfers in exchange of money.
It is suspected that over Rs 3 crore was generated through transfer postings and rest was through illegal sand mining, the ED officials said.
Bhupinder Singh has said in his statement during search, inter-alia, that all cash that was seized from his residential premises at Ludhiana (Rs. 4.09 crore), Sandeep Kumar’s premises at Ludhiana (Rs 1.99 crore) and from the Homeland House Premises at Mohali (Rs. 3.89 crore) belonged to him.
He admitted having generated such proceeds of crime through mining-related activities including clearance of mining files and transfer of officials," the officials said.
