The Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently received confirmation from the adjudicating authority on the attachment of properties made in the case against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.
The confirmation order was regarding the attachment of assets made by the ED officials in the money laundering case against Deshmukh, which was filed by the agency in the month of July last year.
After the confirmation, ED officials can now move court seeking evacuation of the said properties and take them under the agency's control.
ED officials had provisionally attached a flat located in Worli in the name of Aarti Deshmukh, the wife of Anil Deshmukh, and twenty five land parcels in Uran belonging to the company Premier Portlinks Pvt Ltd.
The flat located in Worli valued at Rs 1.54 crores was purchased by the Deshmukh family by paying the entire amount allegedly in cash in 2004. The registration of the flat allegedly only happened in the year 2020 after Deshmukh became the Home Minister.ED officials also alleged that the Deshmukh family had acquired 50 per cent ownership in the company Premier Port Links Pvt Ltd, acquiring its assets which included land parcels and shops, by allegedly paying Rs 17.95 lakh, a payment which reportedly was made after a long time. The book value of the assets was approximately Rs 5.34 crore.
The former minister and NCP leader was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in November last year in connection with a money laundering case.
Former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh, in his letter written to CM Uddhav Thackeray, alleged that Deshmukh, then home minister, had given a target to police officers to collect Rs 100 crore per month from restaurants and bars in the city.
