Sources said incriminating documents indicating possible involvement of Partha Chatterjee and his associates in the West Bengal teacher recruitment scam were recovered by the ED during searches.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday arrested West Bengal industry and commerce minister Partha Chatterjee in connection with its investigation into the alleged teacher recruitment scam.
Chatterjee, who was the state education minister when the alleged scam took place, was arrested after around 26 hours of being questioned by ED officials at his home in south Kolkata.
The arrest comes a day after the probe agency recovered Rs 21 crore in cash from the property linked to Chatterjee’s close aide, Arpita Mukherjee. Around 20 mobile phones and incriminating documents were also recovered from the premises of Mukherjee.
The raids by the ED came a month after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered cases in the recruitment scam on the directions of the Calcutta High Court.
