A standoff in Saskatoon Wednesday morning ended with the police tactical support unit arresting a suspect in a house on the 300 block of Avenue H South.
Police had closed off the block over concerns the man may be armed.
Shortly before 9 a.m. CST, officers began broadcasting orders over a loudspeaker from the police Bearcat vehicle, which was parked on the lawn in front of the house.
"This is the Saskatoon police. Come out with your hands up and listen to officers' commands. You are under arrest."
When the man did not comply, six officers and a dog went in the front door. Bystanders could hear hollow pops from inside the house. An officer said the sound came from tear gas being deployed.
Shortly after, a shirtless man was escorted out of the house.
Family members at the scene said the man had recently gotten out of jail and began taking meth. They said they left the house early this morning, frightened by him, and called police.
