With the launching of the E-Challan system, the Kalaburagi Traffic Police can issue challans online through the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) to traffic violators who will be captured by cameras installed across the city, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Priyank Kharge has said.
He was speaking after launching the e-challan system at the Kalaburagi Police Commissioner’s office on Saturday.
Around 113 CCTV cameras installed at major junctions across the city will monitor traffic systems and capture traffic violations such as signal jumps, speed violation detection, automatic number plate recognition; and a team of officials at a control room in the Police Commissioner’s office will monitor live feed of cameras and issue e-challans.
The vehicles parked in a “no-parking” zone or in any unauthorized zone will be penalised through e-challans. He appealed to the public to click photographs of vehicles violating traffic rules and send them to the control room on the WhatsApp number 94808 05500. The e-challan system will enhance transparency and boost efficiency in traffic management, Mr. Kharge expressed.
The Minister said that the State government has allocated a sum of ₹5 crore for improving the traffic facilities in the city, of which a sum of ₹2.5 crore will be released in the annual budget.
Mr. Kharge said that sincere efforts were being made to make the district drug-free. The district police have extensively campaigned against drug traffickers and seized 2,800 grams of ganja worth ₹2 lakh in a year and registered complaints. Also, instructions have been issued to courier agencies to mark suspicious parcels.
He said that the Police department would launch awareness campaigns to educate students about ill-effects of drug use and encourage them to help build a drug-free society. Efforts are being made to curb anti-social activities such as online betting.
