India Today
Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon-starrer Luka Chuppi was released on March 01, 2018. But, did you know the film was based on a real story? We tell you all about it in this week's Tuesday Trivia.
Live-in relationships! As exciting as it sounds, Indian society is yet to accept the concept with open arms. Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon-starrer Luka Chuppi explored this and much more back in 2018. Yes, it was a slice-of-life film. And it looked so real in parts. But what if we tell you that it was actually inspired by real-life events?
As Luka Chuppi turns three today, March 1, we dig a little deeper into its inspiration.
In Luka Chuppi, Kartik Aaryan plays the role of television reporter Vinod AKA Guddu, while Kriti Sanon plays his intern Rashmi Trivedi. As the film progresses, the duo falls in love. But instead of choosing the 'mandap-and-mangalsutra' route, Kriti Sanon's Rashmi and Kartik Aaryan's Guddu chose a live-in relationship.
But, living with your partner without getting married is the perfect recipe to annoy your parents, relatives and neighbours at once. Hence, begins the circus.
Rohan Shankar, who made his screenwriting debut with Luka Chuppi, explores misogyny, gender inequality, caste bias and moral policing in this Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon-starrer. Rohan once revealed that the entire film was based on real-life incidents.
Rohan, in many interviews, has said that he loves to explore real-life ideas. Be it Mimi, Luka Chuppi or Lalbaugchi Rani, Rohan's ideas are relatable and appeal to the masses. During Luka Chuppi's promotions, Rohan revealed that the film was based on his real-life story and how even his parents were involved.
"Main ek ladki ko date kar raha tha...toh usne bola tha ki saath mein rehte hai...maine haan toh bol diya...lekin agar meri family wahan aagayi toh kya sochegi...ye thought tha...kahani mill gayi...aise hi kuch personal experiences se kahaani milti hain," Rohan had said.
