Vikas Bahl's Queen, released in 2014, was a huge hit. The film turned eight on March 7. But, very few know that Kareena Kapoor Khan was the first choice for the lead role in the film. However, she rejected it. In an old interview, Kareena Kapoor revealed that she was offered Queen, while she was answering a question about rejecting films that went on to become huge hits. Reportedly, Kareena Kapoor Khan has rejected some really big-ticket films during her career. The reported list includes Kal Ho Naa Ho, Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, Goliyon Ki Rasleela - Ram Leela, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Queen and Black. Once, in an interview, Kareena was asked to validate if these reports are true or fake. The Jab We Met actress quickly termed the list fake but admitted that she did reject Queen. "There are only two films on this list that are right, the rest are all wrong. Queen I was offered," Kareena had said.
When asked if she regretted turning down these roles, she said, "I never look back, I only move ahead. I have no regrets."
Kareena Kapoor was offered the role of Rani in Queen, which was eventually played by Kangana Ranaut. Directed by Vikas Bahl and produced by Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, and Madhu Mantena, Queen starred Rajkummar Rao and Lisa Haydon in pivotal roles. Kareena might have turned down Queen, but she got a chance to work with Vikas Bahl later in Udta Punjab. Vikas had co-produced the film.
Queen was praised by the fans and the critics alike. The film revolved around Rani, who is all set to marry Vijay (Rajkummar Rao) but he calls off their wedding at the very last minute and claims that his priorities in life have changed. Though it was Vijay who pursued Rani, he now thinks he is too cool for her. A heartbroken Rani then tries to get over the trauma and goes ahead with her honeymoon plan all by herself. Her trip to Paris and Amsterdam changes her life, and that forms the story of Queen.
