Farah Khan wanted Kamal Haasan to play the antagonist in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Main Hoon Naa. Haasan, however, turned down the offer.
Kamal Haasan is inarguably one of Indian cinema's most decorated stars. The multi-talented artiste has over the years impressed fans and critics alike with his powerful performances and outspoken nature. While all of us are aware of his enviable filmography, not many may know that he once refused to essay a negative role in Shah Rukh Khan's Main Hoon Naa. On Tuesday Trivia, let us take a look at why Haasan turned down Farah Khan's first film as a director.
Kamal Haasan and Shah Rukh Khan shared screen space in the Tamil-Hindi bilingual Hey Ram(2000), directed by Ulaganagan himself. The film received rave reviews and was soon chosen as India's official entry to the Oscars. Post this, they were to come together for Farah Khan's Main Hoon Naa. Things, however, did not work out. Haasan turned down the offer due to his busy schedule. Farah once revealed that Haasan treated her quite well but was unable to adjust his dates.
"I went to Chennai. Kamal Haasan was very nice and he met me and showed me the rushes of the film he was then making. He took me to the office and fed me lunch. Finally, he told me he can’t do my film. He told me that he’s making a movie on Silk Rote," she had said.
The role ultimately went to Suniel Shetty, who received praise for his performance in Main Hoon Naa.
Kamal Haasan was last seen in the Lokesh Kanagaraj-directed Vikram, which did well at the box office. He is set to resume work on Shankar's Indian 2, a sequel to the 1996 classic of the same name, in September. A sequel to Vikram, with Haasan as the hero and Suriya as the antagonist, is said to be in the works. He may soon collaborate with H Vinoth for a political drama as well.
Shah Rukh Khan, on the other hand, will be seen next in Pathaan. The Siddharth Anand-directed biggie is a part of Yash Raj Films' spy universe. SRK also has Atlee's Jawan and Rajkumar Hirani's Dunki in his kitty.
