Before Shekhar Kapur, Jaran Johar was supposed to adapt Amith Tripathi's The Immortals of Meluha. Did you know Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra were to play the lead roles?
Author Amish Tripathi's Shiva Trilogy book series is being adapted into a web series. Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur has been roped in to direct The Immortals of Meluha, the first book in Amish Tripathi's Shiva Trilogy. Back in 2014, it was reported that Amish's books were set for a Hollywood adaptation and looks like the cat's finally out of the bag. But, did you know Karan Johar was also keen on making The Immortals of Meluha? And guess who he was keen on casting - Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra!
Exactly a decade ago, in 2012, reports of Karan Johar wanting to adapt The Immortals of Meluha on celluloid started doing the rounds. It was reported that Karan Johar had acquired the film rights for the novel The Immortals of Meluha. Soon after, the guessing game around who would be cast as the protagonists started.
At the time, KJo was convinced he'd cast Hrithik Roshan in the lead as Lord Shiva. Simultaneously, he was toying with the idea of casting Vidya Balan as the female lead. This was after the super success of The Dirty Picture, and he felt that Vidya would suit the role of the goddess. For a brief moment, even Kareena Kapoor Khan was considered for the role opposite Hrithik. But, the War actor pitched for Priyanka Chopra, his Krrish co-star. Hrithik and Priyanka had also collaborated for KJo's Agneepath, and it wasn't too hard to convince the filmmaker about casting Priyanka. And thus, KJo had his Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati for the film.
Now, there is little known about the Shekhar Kapur directorial venture. Who do you think can play God, and better than Greek God Hrithik Roshan?
