DVP cleanup underway; 37,000 hydro customers remain without power

It’s going to take hours for the Don Valley Parkway to be cleared after heavy rainfall flooded the Greater Toronto Area with almost 100 millimetres of rain on Tuesday, according to the city.
A weather system that brought record-breaking rainfall to Toronto and neighbouring areas may have passed, but residents are left dealing with the aftermath as highways and roads remain flooded, hundreds of thousands are still without power, and public transit services are impacted.
Officials have not given specific times when roads will reopen and power will return. Environment Canada said nearly 100 millimetres of rain fell in Toronto within three hours, more than the July precipitation average of 71.6 millimetres.

Here are the latest updates as the cleanup is underway in Toronto:
Toronto Hydro says 37,000 customers are still without power as of 11 p.m. Meanwhile, Hydro One says its crews are working through the night to restore power.
“While there are unknown factors that could impact repair work, we continue to work as quickly and safely as possible,” Hydro One said in a post on X. “We understand how difficult this situation is and sincerely appreciate your patience.”
