Dump-truck crash closes QEW in both directions in Mississauga

The Queen Elizabeth Way is likely to be closed in both directions in Mississauga until mid-afternoon Tuesday, after a dump truck with its bin up hit a pedestrian bridge.
Provincial police say the collision happened around 8 a.m. The bridge is under construction and no injuries were reported.
All lanes of the QEW are expected to be closed between Cawthra and Dixie roads until between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. as a crew works to safely remove the truck from the roadway, OPP Sgt. Nicola Morris said. A team of engineers will also need to ensure the bridge is not at risk of collapsing before the highway reopens, she added.
"There was not a full collapse of the bridge, but parts of the bridge are dangling over the QEW. There is significant damage to the bridge as it was under construction, so it wasn't fully stable," Morris told CBC Toronto.
It is too early in the investigation to say whether the dump truck driver may be charged, she said.
Toronto-bound traffic is being rerouted onto Cawthra, while Fort Erie-bound drivers are being diverted onto Dixie, Morris said.
Peel police also closed South Service Road in both directions, while North Service Road is closed to westbound drivers at Stanfield Road.
