Dry weather to prevail for the next few days in Tamil Nadu; a fresh spell of rain likely to set in by January 29
Large swathes of Tamil Nadu are set to experience dry weather for the next few days. However, another spell of rain is likely to lash the State around January 29 and 30.
The Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, has said a cyclonic circulation lies over the Equatorial Indian Ocean and the adjoining Andaman Sea. Once it moves closer to the Tamil Nadu region, the weather system may trigger a fresh spell of rain in the State by the month-end. The minimum temperature might dip slightly below the normal during the next few days at places, especially those in north Tamil Nadu, officials said.
None of the weather stations in the State recorded rainfall on Friday.
P. Senthamarai Kannan, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, Chennai, said the rainfall would initially occur in the southern parts of the State and cover many other parts by January 30.
Places like Chennai may continue to have chilly mornings and a misty cover in the next few days. The minimum temperature would be around 21 degrees Celsius-22 degrees Celsius. While the day temperature could rise by two degrees Celsius, it may not go up further as cool easterly winds continue to prevail over the region.
On Friday, Karur Paramathi recorded the maximum temperature of 33.5 degrees Celsius, against the day’s average of 31.2 degrees Celsius. This was the hottest temperature recorded in the State.
With rainfall continuing through January, the RMC is yet to announce the withdrawal of the Northeast monsoon. Tamil Nadu has received surplus rainfall so far this month. Tirunelveli is one of the districts with a bountiful rainfall of 23 cm this January, much more than its normal of 2.4 cm.
