Dozens are reportedly killed after rival fans stormed the pitch following a controversial referee decision.
Clashes and a subsequent stampede have killed dozens of people at a football game in Guinea, according to health officials.
The violence broke out during a match on Sunday afternoon in Nzerekore, Guinea’s second-largest city with a population of 200,000, where rival fans stormed the field following a controversial referee decision, reported news site Guineenews.
The exact number of casualties is unclear. Health officials cited by the AFP news agency put the death toll in dozens, with one doctor saying it was about 100.
“There are bodies lined up as far as the eye can see in the hospital,” said the doctor. “Others are lying on the floor in the hallways. The morgue is full.”
Al Jazeera, however, could not independently verify the casualty figures.
